On Monday, Creek Street Christian College had the privilege of hosting the Christian children’s book author, Nikki Rogers, to our school. Mrs. Rogers shared her passion for writing children’s stories with our Prep students, informing the children that she ‘wrote’ her first book when she was just 4 years old!
First, we read the much loved Sooty and Snow, a story about a mischievous chook. We met Snow, the fluffy chicken puppet, then the children drew their own chook having exciting adventures.
The children were truly inspired. Once back in class, we had chickens ‘hatching’ (being drawn on scrap paper) everywhere! A couple of students came to school the following day sharing the books they had written at home.
The children thoroughly enjoyed Nikki Rogers’ visit. It was wonderful to see our next generation of young authors being inspired to write.
Two takeaways.
1. Ideas for story writing can come from anywhere. A good place to start is to draw a picture.
2. You’re never too young to start!
